According to the results of a nationwide poll that were released Monday, popular support for Matteo Salvini’s League party has doubled since the party’s electoral victory one year ago.
When Italy held its national elections on the March 4th of last year, the League party garnered about 17 percent of the nation’s vote. Today, that figure has almost exactly doubled to 33.9 percent of Italian voters who express that they favor the League party over any other. This makes Salvini’s League party Italy’s preferred party by a noteworthy margin.
In a far off second and third place are the Democratic Party (PD) and the League’s ruling coalition partner, the Five Star Movement (M5S), who have the fidelity of 21.1 percent and 21 percent of the Italian vote, respectively. Monday’s poll results mark the very first time since last year’s elections that the Democratic Party has more popular support than the Five Star Movement, even if only by one tenth of a percentage point.
After taking home 32.22 percent of the vote in the 2018 national election, M5S has endured a constant decline in their popularity, losing almost 11 percentage points in that time span.
The League and Forza Italia, the center-right coalition partners who joined with the Five Star Movement to form a national government, is now stronger than they’ve ever been before, holding the support of almost 47 percent of the Italian electorate. That’s up from the 35 percent of the vote which the center-right took during last March’s elections.
According to another poll that was recently released on March 15th, the ruling populist coalition which is composed of the League and MS5 currently enjoy the backing of 54 percent of Italians.
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini and the leader of the League, continues to be Italy’s most fashionable politician. Salvini’s approval rating currently stands at 59 percent and is the principal reason behind the sudden but sustained rise of the League’s popularity throughout Italy.
According to another survey, the straightforward, courageous, and down-to-earth style of Salvini has made him Italy’s most trusted politician. His Italy first motto, his refusal to capitulate to the demands of EU globalists, and his policy to drastically reduce illegal immigration into Italy has won the favor of vast numbers of Italians.
